Fun With Touch (FWT) // Touch Rugby, Tokyo, Japan

Before the touch footie seasons gets underway, we will have a season opening party for Fun with Touch!

The FWT parties are always great fun because they are well attended with great people, with this party being extra special because its the start of the new season.

When we start touch rugby in March, there will be a new rule in place - no studs or cleats are to be worn (on your boots).  This is a request from the groundskeeper at Tatsumi.

Cross trainers or spealized touch rugby shoes are recommended.

Rugby league is played in Japan, but is not as common as rugby union or touch rugby.  Its a very physical sport, and outside of a few subtleties its comparable to that of rugby union.

The player base is small, so if you are available on one of these days listed above, if you let Koni know that you would like to play, you will be able to get game time.

The Kanto Touch Super League (KTSL) is the most competitive level of touch rugby in the Kanto region.  Last year there were 10 teams competing in areas such as Saitama, Ibaraki, Kanagawa and Tokyo.

The tournament dates for the 2010 KTSL season has been announced.  The dates are as follows:

First Half of the season:

April 11th

April 25th

May 9th

Dates if postponed – May 16th, June 13th/20th

Second Half of the season:

September 12th

September 26th

October 3rd

Dates if postponed – October 17th/31st、November 14th

All games will be held in Shiki, Saitama and the day will usually start from 9am and run through to about 15.00.

This season, the games will be 30 minutes in duration as opposed to the traditional 20 minute (10 minute half) games

There will be other tournaments that teams can play in such as the monthly Omori tournaments and a few tournaments held by the Shonan Grass Boys in Fujisawa.  We will provide information regarding the tournaments closer to the tournament dates.

Also, we are looking at entering a Fun with Touch competitive side into the KTSL from the start of the second half of the tournament as well as in the Japan Cup at the end of October.  If you are interested in joining this team, please let us know at one of the Saturday FWT sessions.

The touch rugby season is not to far away!  Saturday 6th March is the scheduled start date for FWT.

However, before we get ahead of ourselves, lets have a party to get things started.  Thursday 25th Feb is the date and it will be in Roppongi.  More information will be on this later.
